Born in Mönchengladbach, percussionist Veith Kloeters studied in Düsseldorf and thrives as a versatile freelance musician. He regularly collaborates with ensembles like the WDR Funkhaus Orchestra and Balthasar Neumann Orchestra. Beyond performing, Veith creates innovative shows and produces with the Neo-Percussion Band Repercussion. Since 2013, Veith shares his expertise as a lecturer at the Robert Schumann University of Music and teaches at Viersen music school and various academies.
Born in Innsbruck, violinist Ulrike Engel studied in Vienna with Ernst Kovacic and in London with Andrew Manze. Her curiosity for historical performance has led her to collaborations with renowned ensembles such as the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, The English Concert, Les Arts Florissants and Concentus Musicus Wien. She performs widely as chamber musician and soloist across Europe and, since 2001, has served as concertmaster of Wiener Akademie (until 2010) and Capella Leopoldina. Ulrike also teaches historical violin at the University for Music and Arts in Vienna.
After earlier steps in Darmstadt and Stuttgart, Ulrich Hübner finished his studied with Prof. Erich Penzel in Cologne. Since 1995, he has embraced historically informed performance, collaborating with top ensembles like Anima Eterna, Les Musiciens du Prince and the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra. Passionate about exploring the history of his instrument and its repertoire, he is also deeply involved in chamber music and the Laterna Musica project of children‘s concerts in Frankfurt. Since 1996, Ulrich has taught horn and natural horn at the conservatories in Cologne and Frankfurt.
Montreal-born horn player Renée Allen is a specialist in historical performance and has performed for nearly three decades with the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra and Concerto Köln as well as with ensembles such as Anima Eterna. She has taught natural horn at the music universities of Leipzig, Freiburg and Würzburg and appears on numerous acclaimed recordings. Active as a teacher of the Alexander Technique since 1993, Renée is currently finishing a training to become a facilitator in Transformational Breath.
Born in Nuremberg, Patrick Flassig studied with Henning Wiegräbe, Joseph Bastian and Matthias Dangelmaier in Stuttgart. A prizewinner at Jugend musiziert, he performed with the German National Youth Orchestra and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra. From 2009 Patrick was a member of the Bavarian State Opera Academy and worked in temporary contracts at the operas of Stuttgart and Hamburg. He now plays bass trombone with the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra and the Würzburg Opera.
Madrid-born violist Pablo de Pedro Cano studied at the Mozarteum Salzburg with Thomas Riebl and Veronika Hagen. After serving as principal violist of the European Union Chamber Orchestra, he dedicated himself to historically informed performance and now holds principal positions with ensembles such as Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, Concentus Musicus Wien and Europa Galante. A member of the Edding Quartet and founder of Ensemble Delirio, Pablo performs internationally and teaches viola and Baroque viola at the Royal College of Music in London.
Venetian double bassist Nicola dal Maso trained at the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello with Gianni Amadio and studied violone with Alberto Rasi, Guido Balestracci, and Richard Myron. He performs with leading conductors including Jordi Savall, Teodor Currentzis, Ton Koopman, Ottavio Dantone, Emmanuelle Haïm, and Thomas Hengelbrock, and appears with renowned period ensembles such as Accademia Bizantina, Utopia Orchestra and Le Concert d’Astrée. A longtime member of the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, his repertoire spans Renaissance to Romantic music and encompasses orchestral, solo, and chamber works.
As a specialist in making music on the valveless natural trumpet, Moritz Görg has worked with leading conductors of early music, such as Thomas Hengelbrock, Philippe Herreweghe, Lionel Meunier. Moritz holds the first trumpet position in the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra and performs with Vox Luminis, Collegium Vocale Gent, Freiburger Barockorchester among others. Moritz is lecturer in residence on natural trumpet at the Music Universities in Hamburg and Mannheim and gives masterclasses around the world (Havanna/Cuba, Reggello/Italy, Music University Dresden and Lübeck).
Born in southern Germany, Mike Asche studied percussion and timpani in Hanover with Andreas Boettger and Erich Trog. A former member of the European Union Youth Orchestra, he served as principal timpanist and lecturer at the Essen Philharmonic. Remarkably, Mike spent a decade as a commercial pilot for Lufthansa before returning to music in 2021. Now a sought-after freelance timpanist, Mike performs with top orchestras like the NDR Elbphilharmonie and the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra as well as the Bavarian State Opera Munich, while leading timpani workshops.
Michael Schmidt-Casdorff studied historical and modern flute with Konrad Hünteler. Sought after as principal flutist, he performs with leading ensembles such as The Orchestra of the 18th Century and Balthasar Neumann Orchestra. The encounters with Frans Brüggen and Nikolaus Harnoncourt (he was invited a numerous of times to play in the Concentus Musicus Wien) had an intense impact on him. A passionate soloist and chamber musician, he often revives rarely heard flute repertoire. Michael teaches traverso at Folkwang University in Essen and at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz.

He performs at major festivals, teaches percussion at the Music Conservatory Zurich and is frequently invited to various universities as a specialist in historically informed performance.
Based in Barcelona, violinist Maria Roca studied modern violin in Graz by Maighread McCrann and Baroque violin in Stuttgart with Christine Busch. She performed with the Spanish National Youth Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra before joining major Spanish ensembles and the early music scene. She has been collaborating with the Orchestra of the Liceu Opera House in Barcelona for the last ten years. Today Maria appears regularly with Collegium Vocale Gent, Le Concert des Nations and the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra.
Born in northern German, oboist Katharina Arfken began her musical journey as an instrument maker before studying Baroque and Classical oboe at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and The Hague. For 30 years, she was oboist of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and performed worldwide with ensembles like English Baroque Soloists and Concerto Köln. Known for her expressive solo recordings, including premieres of Richter and Bach oboe concertos, Katharina teaches Baroque and Classical oboe at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and leads courses across Europe.
Slovak-born violinist Igor Karsko studied in Košice and Prague before joining the Menuhin Academy in Gstaad, where Alberto Lysy shaped his artistic path. He has served as concertmaster with the Camerata Zurich and the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and performed with ensembles such as Zurich Chamber Orchestra. Passionate about historical performance, he founded the Baroque groups La Banda ANTIX and La Giaconda. Igor appears widely as soloist and chamber musician and teaches regularly in Europe and Cuba. Igor teaches violin and baroque violin at the University in Lucerne.
Munich-born clarinetist Florian Schüle began his studies at the Richard Strauss Conservatory before training with Dr. Otto Kronthaler at the University of Music Karlsruhe. Since 2004, he has been principal clarinetist of the Badische Philharmonie Pforzheim and holds principal roles with Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, MusicaAeterna and Utopia Orchestra. Florian also teaches historical clarinet and mental practice seminars in Munich and Freiburg, and co-directs the clarinet festival clariMondo in Staufen. As of October 2025, he will be Professor of Wind Chamber Music at the University of Music Karlsruhe.
Born in Worms, mezzosoprano Dorothee Wohlgemuth studied voice and singing teaching in Cologne and Düsseldorf, later refining her artistry with Jessica Cash, Sena Jurinac and Margreet Honig. Equally at home in early and contemporary repertoire, she has appeared at venues such as Munich’s Herkulessaal, Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle and the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. A longtime member of the Balthasar Neumann Choir, she also collaborated regularly with Ton Koopman and teaches voice at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf.
Donata Böcking studied violin, viola and Baroque violin in London and Vienna, gaining orchestral experience in the Orchestra Academy of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. From 2006 to 2009 she served as principal viola of the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa in Japan. Now based in Lübeck, she performs with ensembles such as the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, Ensemble Resonanz and Freiburger Barockorchester, appearing at major festivals including Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence and the BBC Proms. She also holds a degree in psychology and works as a mediator.
Uruguayan-born double bassist Diego Zecharies has been principal bassist of the Galician Symphony Orchestra since 2002 and of the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra since 2022. Since 2013, he has also served as Professor at the Escuela Nacional de Música del Uruguay. He was formerly principal bassist of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Brandenburg Symphoniker, and the Sinfonica di Milano. Diego frequently collaborates with renowned soloists in chamber music projects, and his performances reached more than 430,000 views on YouTube. He shares his passion for the double bass through masterclasses, festivals, and youth orchestra projects worldwide.
Christoph Dangel studied cello in Basel with Reinhard Latzko and Thomas Demenga. Principal cellist of the Kammerorchester Basel and the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, he performs regularly with leading ensembles such as Il Giardino Armonico and the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, as well as with musicians including Isabelle Faust and Kristian Bezuidenhout. His solo albums Viaggio Italiano and 1824 are dedicated to Baroque and early Romantic repertoire. With Camerata Variabile he also explores contemporary music. Christoph teaches historical cello at the Freiburg University of Music and directs Baroque and orchestral academies.
Born near Barcelona, bassoonist Carles Cristóbal Ferran studied at Badalona and earned an Early Music diploma at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. A sought-after freelancer, he performs with leading ensembles like Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, Hespèrion XXI, and Les Talens Lyriques. Passionate about the history and practice of the bassoon family, Carles teaches historical bassoon at the Haute École de Musique de Genève and, since 2021, at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
Born in Zurich, violinist Astrid Leutwyler studied in Stuttgart, Zurich and London with Hanna Weinmeister, Judith Ingolfsson, Andreas Janke and David Takeno, later deepening her historical performance practice with Rachel Podger and Giuliano Carmignola. Formerly first concertmaster of the Bamberg Symphony, she performs with ensembles including the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra and has released acclaimed albums such as „Hymne à la beauté“ (2018) and „Secret Nights“ (2023). She co-directs the Küsnacht Classical Festival with her sister Sonja.
Andrea Rognoni is a violinist who specialises in both period and modern violin. Born and raised in Cremona, he made his recording debut in 1999 with a collection of violin sonatas by Cremonese composers such as Visconti, Zani and Zuccari. He founded the internationally acclaimed AleaEnsemble, a historically informed string ensemble which has won important awards for its recordings. Since 2019, Andrea has been teaching at the Civica Scuola di Musica C. Abbado in Milan. He regularly performs as concertmaster and second violin leader with the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra and Europa Galante, and has collaborated with numerous other renowned orchestras.
